Rhubarb Starting
| Rhubarb Starting (oil on canvas 20x16 in.) |
In April 2009 I was in the midst of a decade of painting Rhubarb’s spring emergence each spring. It was my spring ritual to sit on the ground under the old apple tree and paint en plein air. The knobs and ruffles have never failed to amaze me, so full of energy that they produce their own heat to keep from freezing at night. I go out to check their survival after each late snowfall and find the snow melting away from them.
In recent springs I’ve just taken photos of the Rhubarb sprouting, to use as reference for studio paintings, but photos are easy to ignore. Once I’ve taken them I go on to other things.
After spending several years in art lending, “Rhubarb Starting” has returned to me, and it’s nice to see in the original - but I’m willing to let it go for $850.
Let me know if you can give it a good home,
